Adventures in pregnancy

I missed my 29 week update last week...I was off on a little pregnancy adventure. My adventure involved a trip to the ER and then three nights in the hospital. I woke up last Tuesday feeling rather uncomfortable. I told myself that it was probably just some gas that was trapped, or an uncomfortable bm. I started my day and limped along. Yes, really I limped along. I went to the bathroom a couple of times, and that didn´t seem to be the problem or do the trick. I ran a couple of errands and went to the grocery store. I discovered that lifting my shopping bag into the car was nearly impossible, and lifting my leg to get in the car...terribly painful. I drove home, fixed myself some lunch and lay down for a nap. I tried to move the baby or encourage her to move because I thought that might help. It didn´t. I got up from my nap and felt worse. The tears began to flow. I pondered my choices: a)do nothing b) call a neighbor to take me to the doctor/hospital c) drive myself to the hospital d) call the ER doctor to come make a house call.

I decided the simplest and least dramatic option would be to get in the car and drive the five minutes to the hospital nearby. I was glad that the trip there did not involve getting on any main roads, and that I was able to get a parking spot near the door. I went straight to the ER, told them I was 29 weeks pregnant and having abdominal pain. They wasted no time in sending me up to L&D to get checked out. I was put on monitor to check for contractions (there were none) and see the baby´s heartbeat (it was fine). Then i was given a very thorough scan and pelvic exam. Both turned up nothing. The very helpful midwife suggested that I was just hyper sensitive to things because of my "history" and said it was probably just RLP....The young resident decided maybe they should send me back to the ER to see a surgeon/internal medicine doc.

Back in the ER I was asked to give a urine sample and have blood drawn. I did and then I was finally able to see another doctor about an hour later...She was young and very nice and very cautious. She examined me and looked at the lab results and decided that it looked like an appendicitis even though I wasn´t running a fever or throwing up. My white blood count was elevated and the pain was indicative of the appendix. She got out a portable ultrasound machine and began to look for my appendix, which wasn´t to be found thanks to baby. She did find my kidneys...lo and behold my right kidney was much enlarged and urin seemed to be pooling there. Hmmmm. But my urine sample showed no signs of infection, so where was the infection coming from? The appendix? Something else? It was decided that I must stay the night in the surgical ward for observation. I was probably going to have surgery in the morning she said. No food and no drink for me...OMG, it´s now 9 at night and the last I had was lunch!! Well, I could have an IV, so an IV it was.

Fast forward about 9 hours. The doctors are doing their rounds. Nothing like waking up to a team of five doctors standing around your bed. "Where does it hurt" "Please show us the spot" "How long have you had this" "Are you sure you haven´t thrown up?" "hmmmm" "more labs please." An hour later the head doctor came to personally examine me. More hmmm. Then, no, it´s not the appendix. Maybe it´s something gynocological. Go back to the L&D ward.

Back in the L&D ward more ultrasound and more hmmm. Then the decision to send me to the radiologist for an ultrasound of my kidneys. More waiting and waiting. Then the radiologist. One look and she said "Oh, that´s a second degree kidney something or other." " Yes, they hurt. A lot sometimes." "Sleep on your left side" "get on your elbows and knees for 10 minutes twice a day" "This will go away after you give birth."

This will go away after I give birth....worst case scenario I have nearly three more months of this?! Uggg. Back to L&D. Two more nights under observation and then I was allowed to go home after promising to come back if I thought it was getting worse. I got a nice letter for my ob/gyn explaining the course of treatment or lack there of. Oh, and I´m now to take an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test to make sure that I´m not diabetic since that would be the double whammy for my poor kidney. I have an appt. for the OGTT next Wed. at 31weeks and I am not looking forward to it. Two hours of waiting before I can eat?! This momma likes her morning tea and breakfast, but what must be must be.

And that´s the end of the adventure. For now anyway. It was suggested that at some point in the next ten weeks I might need to visit a urologist...

Oh, and the stats: Baby was measured between 1200 and 1400 grams! She´s growing strong, and kicking, karate chopping like nobody´s business. I do believe I am giving birth to the next karate kid.

27 weeks!

Today I am 27 weeks. I´m amazed how the time has flown--I mean where did the last week go? I´m not even really working anymore. I work 2-4 hours a week and that´s it. It´s almost not work, and I am enjoying it. I can´t say that I have been terribly productive, because I haven´t. I have lots of projects that are half-finished. I mean I need to clean out the nursery completely and finish up those burp clothes, going home dress. I can say that I have washed and put away all the clothes that Miss Lillysaur has already gotten. I´m waiting for my mother to send the things she got at my shower. I´m also waiting for her to send the diapers I ordered. Fortunately mom was kind enough to do all the washing for me so I don´t have to do it whenever the package(s) come(s). It might be a bit before Grandmother Lillysaur gets around to sending the things, though. Grandfather Lillysaur is in the hospital recovering from open-heart surgery, so she has other things on her mind. And I don´t blame her one bit. I just want Grandfather Lillysaur to get well soon so he can come see his newest grandchild.

So ups: Miss Lillysaur is kicking, punching, boxing up a storm. She´s keeping me awake a lot at night now. Not sure if that´s really an up, but it´s nice to know that she is doing well.

Downs: My tailbone. Oh my aching tailbone. I broke my tailbone as a teenager and it wasn´t terribly much fun. Now my dear tailbone feels about like it did back then...only this time I am not too vain to sit on one of those donut cushions. I plan on getting the ob/gyn to give me a prescription for one at my appt. on Monday. I´m also hoping she´ll have some other suggestions about what to do.

Weight gain: I have no idea, nor do I even want to know at this point.

Belly button: Oh, it´s going to be an outie, I can tell. Some days it is, and some days it´s mostly in, though I´m not sure in is the right word.

Maternity clothes: Oh heavens yes. I don´t think I could wear anything else at this point. A couple of the things I have are even getting too small...I really was hoping not to buy anymore things to wear, but I may not have a choice in that I see.

How big is baby: I don´t really know, but I`m guessing she must be over a kilo now, but I´m sure the ob/gyn will give me the latest measurements on Monday along with how the blood is flowing to the baby....

Cravings: Peanut Butter Pie. I made some for Mr. Lillysaur´s b-day and had some for breakfast this morning. I still love, love, love eating potatos. Yes, potatos. Nomm.

Smelly Mama

It's an exciting day for two reasons...

  1. I am 30 weeks today!
  2. We finally settled on a name for "Baby" this morning!
It's hard to believe that in 10 weeks we will be meeting the newest member of our family! And let's hope it's in the next ten weeks!!! Alright, I know I promised to quit complaining but I have had a miserable week!

Remember a few weeks ago when I was complaining about my stiff neck? YAH... I still have it! AND, to add to the discomfort, I now have a hand, wrist, forearm and elbow that gets more sleep than I do! I finally called the Dr. after a really rough night a few days ago. She assured me that I wasn't having a stroke, and that more than likely my symptoms were being caused by pregnancy induced carpal tunnel syndrome. YAY ME!

Has anyone else ever had to deal with this? Is there anything I can do to get some relief? It's not too bad during the day, I can at least tolerate it. But at night, it's a whole different ballgame! I have resorted to sleeping on the couch since that's the only spot that I can get any solid rest in.

I've been taking Tyelnol when it gets so bad that I can't stand it any longer and of course I continue to slather the BenGay on my neck at about 4 every morning. Funny story! A friend and I took our kiddos to the pool last week. We'd been in the water awhile when my friend looks at me and says, "Do you smell chewing tobacco?" I had, but couldn't figure out where it was coming from. We finally decided that it must be a group of high school guys that had made their way over to the little kids pool. All of the sudden it came to me that it was not the high school boys... IT WAS ME & MY BENGAY! How sad is that?! My own DH can't stand the smell of me any longer!
Typing hasn't been too bad, I just quit if it gets too painful but driving is the absolute worst! I've been doing some research and have read numerous times that this isn't going to go away until after the baby's born... that's going to make the next 10 weeks seem like an eternity! I would love to hear from anyone out there about experiences that they've had with this!

Where did the time go?

I looked at my ticker on a message board this morning and realized that I am now in the double digits--only 98 days to go! At least I think I mean (!) but maybe not--I mean where did the time go? I planned to make all sorts of interesting posts about my pregnancy, fill you gals in on the good the bad and the ugly, I had a post planned (in my head) for when I reached 24 weeks, but I was in some sort of haze and forgot.

I feel sort of like I´ve cheated myself and my child by not being more diligent and writing down the important things. Some day my little girl might ask me "when did you feel/have _______ ?" or "How much ___________?" No clue. All I can say is that I´ve finally put on some weight. Rather suddenly actually. Like three pounds in 10 days....holly cow how did that happen? Like I said, no idea.

The ups: Baby girl has really been getting stronger and a lot more active. I enjoy feeling her kick and punch and twist and turn, and maybe even have the hiccups, though I´m not entirely sure that´s what it was. Sometimes it´s even down right uncomfortable when she kicks. She likes to protest certain sleeping positions of mine...ahhh my right side, how I would love to sleep on you, but someone isn´t to keen on that.

She´s growing. She´s growing and that is marvelous, wonderful news to her mommy. The doctor estimated her at about 900 grams last week. I´m very thankful for that because it means things are ok. She´s in about the 45-50 percentile for everything. She´s not big and she´s not little. That´s quite ok with her mommy.

The downs: The perinatlogist discovered that the bloodflow to the uterus on my right side isn´t good. I have something called notching. It means there is resistence in the artery and not as much blood can flow to the uterus and then to the placenta. The left side is good, but the right side not so much. I´m at risk for developing pre-eclampsia and HELP syndrome, and the baby is at risk for IUGR (growth retardation) but right now my blood pressure is good and baby is growing. I´ll take that. It means that I must continue me heparin shots and be closely monitored. I have another appt. with the perinatologist the beginning of september for her to check again. In the mean time, I´ve finally hit a wall with the heparin shots. In the beginning it wasn´t bad and I didn´t mind too much, but now I´ve started to dread it. I can´t really find a good place to do them anymore. My belly is growing and stretching and taking all the skin with it...so much for finding a fold of skin to pinch! My thigh....I tried it once and it was unbearable. So for the moment I search for a place that might work on my hips or near my belly and go for it...

The TMI´s: My breasts are really getting ready for the whole BF thing. My nipples are changing color, shape, size...and more. Yes, I think I leak a bit now and then. I even pee on myself if I´m not careful. A word from the wiser, DO YOUR KEGELS. Really. It´s not fun to pass gas and accidentaly pee on yourself at the same time, really.

The State That I'm In @ 29 Weeks

I feel like I've been doing a lot of complaining the past couple of weeks! Instead of dwelling on everything from the heat, to the irritable uterus, the stiff neck, to the bleeding gums, the growing pains and the lack of sleep at night, I need to keep in mind the little prize at the end... our baby boy!

It took a long time to be in this state that I'm in, and I am so thankful for it. And honestly, it could be so much worse! When I stop and think about it, I've only got 11 more weeks of being uncomfortable and that doesn't even compare to the year and a half of trying that it took for us to get here.

So from here on out, I promise to do better about being positive about this little miracle of a full term pregnancy! And I started that positive outlook w/ a few new "belly shots" (from earlier this morning). I'm not excited about having people see my bare belly but I know in a few years I'll look back and be thankful for having taken them. (The only "belly shots" I have from my first pregnancy were taken a few days before DS arrived and I now wish I had more to share w/ him.)

So as I head out this afternoon to do my daily chores in this horrible heat, I will remember a year ago at this time when I felt so sad about not being in this special state that I'm in!

What a Pain in the Neck

At 28 weeks I have woken up everyday with the most horrible sore neck! BenGay is my best friend right now! During the day, luckily, the pain isn't too bad. I can at least tolerate it but at night and right away every morning, I have been more than miserable! For the first few days I kept telling myself that it would go away... it's been OVER a WEEK!!! Is it ever going to go away?!

I have tried switching pillows, changing positions while sleeping and various different forms of support for my legs, back and neck during the night. Nothing seems to help! At what point do I call my Dr.? I need my sleep and sitting up, nursing a stiff neck is not my idea of rest!

I have a feeling that all of this "taking it easy" stuff has caused my pain in the neck. I haven't been able to be nearly as active and avoiding the great outdoors right now is critical since we are experiencing triple digit heat, daily! Has anyone else experienced this type of horror?! What should I do?

Almost half-baked

I´m 19w5d today, so almost half-baked. Mr. Lillysaur went with me to my appt this morning to see baby Lillysaur. It was a long, long wait, but we got to see the baby. Most importantly, today was the first time Mr. Lillysaur saw the baby in action. We didn´t get to hear the hb, but maybe next time. Our little one was hard to see as she was all cozied up in the corner. Her head is on my bladder (no wonder I pee all.the.time) and her feet were over on my left side. I had figured as much because whenever I feel any kicks, it´s always in about the same place, on my left side! Guess mommys really do know best.

The weather has been very, very hot here. Not having air conditioning kind of sucks when it´s over 90 outside! My belly feels particularly tight and uncomfortable when the temperature is up and I´m on my feet, so I´ve been avoiding it as much as possible. The doctor said to drink 3-4 liters of water on hot days...maybe I can just camp-out on the john.

Ups: feeling the bebe move more, getting more kicks.
Downs: It´s getting hard to roll over in bed, and my belly isn´t even that big yet...oh boy.

Weight gain: I´ve gained 5.5 lbs to date which isn´t much she said. I have no idea how much people normally gain by 20 weeks, but I´ve been eating like a horse....

Belly button: My belly button is still an innie, but it looks like it´s going to be an outie in another month or so.

Maternity clothes: yes, but I still wear my regular swimsuits and some regular shorts of mine. I don´t really look that pregnant, and so far no one has come up and asked or said anything to me. I guess they all think I´m just getting a bit fat.

Best moment: I don´t know that I´ve had a best moment this week, but feeling her kick after I´ve had something particularly cold and sweet to drink is kind of fun!

Luckysaur- Week 36

I've reached week 36...36weeks and 4 days to be exact and I'm so ready to be done. Only 23 more days (hopefully) till I get to meet my little girl. Week 36 has brought a LOT of pelvic pain. I ache almost all the time. I have problems walking. Especially right after I get up from sitting. My hips also hurt every time I turn over in bed. This part of pregnancy has not been fun.

I've started have a few Braxton-Hicks contractions. It's weird feeling your stomach get that hard. I'm hoping that they are helping get my uterus ready for the big day. I have my next doctor's appointment on Wednesday. I'd kind of like to see if there's anything going on in there (effacement, dilation) even though I know that it doesn't really mean much at this stage.

I think that we have the majority of the things crossed off of our to do list now. All the newborn and 0-3 month clothes are washed, our car seat bases are installed, we have the bouncy seat, swing and stroller put together, we have diapers and wipes set out next to her changing table. Her bookcase and crib have been put together and all our thank you's have been written. The only thing that we have left to do is pack our hospital bag. Almost everything that's going in there is stuff that I will be using prior to going to the hospital so I can't really pack it yet. I think that I'm just going to write out a list and pack it before we go. I'm not really worried about forgetting anything (except for the camera). Mr. Luckysaur will be coming back fairly frequently to let our dogs out while I'm in the hospital. So if something is forgotten, he can get it on one of his trips back.

It's scary and exciting how close we are to being parents. I really hope that I can make it through the next couple of weeks.

Showered with Love

Hello all! I'm back from my shower in Florida with a whole lot more goodies for Sophie than I could have ever imagined. I hauled two stuffed suitcases back...thank goodness for the two free bags deal on Southwest! We also shipped two packed boxes back. It was so great to see everyone and they were all so generous. I had the best time and couldn't have asked for a better shower. My sister and mom are quite the event planners and everything looked and tasted wonderful!

We'll start with the presents. Here they are in all their wrapped glory.

Sophie got a ton of cute little outfits...she's going to be all set until she hits about 3 months old. After that the poor little girl's going to have nothing. Haha. Until then, she going to be one stylin' baby! We also got a lot of diapers, some wipes, a swing, a playmat, a carseat base, and a few gift cards. Mr. Luckysaur and I are planning on hitting up Target and Babies R Us this weekend to finish up getting the rest of the stuff that we need.

The food that my sister and mom fixed for the shower was AMAZING! They need to go into business hosting parties, that's how good they are.

This was the appetizer table. There were two platters of prosciutto wrapped tomatoes and mozzerella and the stacked platters were these yummy shrimp and cream cheese cups.

For lunch we had salad with the tastiest crab cakes ever along with a fruit salad in martini glasses rimmed with pink sugar...too cute.

They also made me a yummy non-alcoholic punch to sip on that was full of fruit.

Not pictured (because I scarfed it down too fast) was the chocolate cream puffs for desert. They were to die for!

Here's a quick picture of all the girls in my family... me, my mom, sister, sister-in-law, and my two absolutely adorable nieces. I'm so happy that they were all able to make it!

Last, but not least were the decorations that my sister worked so hard on. She's so creative with these things. She made the most adorable banner with Sophie's name on it that hung above the present table along with some paper lanterns.

Sophie's name and initials were on the flowers on the table

There was a diaper cake on the coffee table.

They also had these cute popcorn ball favors for all the guests to take home with them.

Just for kicks...here's my week 33 picture. I feel like I've grown a lot in the past couple of weeks. I can't imagine what I'm going to look like when I'm 40 weeks...yikes!!!

How big is your baby?

One of the fun things about being pregnant is reading about your baby's development week by week - what they're doing, how they're growing, and how big they are.

At the start of this pregnancy, I used to send Mr Bibliosaur weekly updates from The Bump to tell him what size the babies were - they have a handy dandy fruit chart that tells you the average dimensions of your baby, and gives you a sweet image to go along with it. For example, this is what it tells me about our babies for today, at exactly 25 weeks:

Let your spouse put an ear to your belly -- he might be able to pick up baby's heartbeat (no stethoscope required).
Inside the womb, the formation of tiny capillaries is giving baby a healthy pink glow.
Baby's also soaking up your antibodies, getting the immune system ready for life outside the womb.
Eyes are forming, and baby will soon perfect the blink -- perfect for batting those freshly grown lashes.

Pretty cool, right? The thing was, Mr Bibliosaur wasn't impressed. Fruit? Who cares about fruit? So around the beginning of the second trimester, I decided to find a chart that would hold a bit more meaning for him. And did I ever!

Over at His Boys Can Swim, Tarzan created the Ultimate Guide To Baby Sizes Week-By-Week For Soon-To-Be Fathers. On THAT list, week 25 looks like this:

13 inch boot? You know what
they say… Your baby is about
this long during these weeks.

Who needs fruit when you can see that your baby is the size of a golf ball on week 11, a stud finder on week 16, and, as Mr Bibliosaur gleefully informed me, "the size of one nice-sized boob" at week 20?

So how big is YOUR baby? The size of a banana, or more like a bottle of beer?

Luckysaur- Week 29

Hello all! It's been a few weeks since I've posted anything. Mr. Luckysaur and I were in St. Louis with his family over the holidays and I'm just getting into the groove of being back. I had a week and a half off for Christmas. It was really nice being off, but it's actually nice to get back in the swing of things too. Mr. Luckysaur and I had a few days back here before we had to get back to work which was wonderful. We got a lot of things done in Sophie's room. Her dresser/changing table needed an extra coat of paint, since the previously brown top was still showing through the white paint. Mr. Luckysaur worked on that project while I unearthed the pile of stuff that we've been accumulating for Sophie. I took off tags off of clothes and blankets and put it all away. We also painted a side table in the room bright red, which looks so cute. I guess nesting had started kind of early in the Luckysaur household, but it feels so good to get some of this stuff done.

Sophie, as well as Mr. Luckysaur and I, did well this Christmas. Sophie got quite a few clothes (she's going to be one stylin' little girl), books, and a sippie cup with her name on it. Mr. Luckysaur and I decided to go together and get a new camera for each other for Christmas this year. We got the Canon T1i DSLR camera and a lens so that we can get some good (hopefully!) shots of the little one when she arrives. We've been testing it out on the dogs. I think they're ready for Sophie to arrive just so that they don't have to have any more pictures taken of them. Haha! Mr. Luckysaur and I got money from Granny and Papa (my parents) to go towards an upholstered recliner/glider that we've been eyeing to rock our little girl in. We promtly went out and bought it after opening our card with the money in it. I made Mr. Luckysaur take a picture of me in the chair. Ahhhh...so comfy!

I had my doctor's appointment on Monday, which included the dreaded 1 hour glucose tolerance test. The drink actually wasn't as bad as I thought (and heard) it was going to be. It tasted like flat Sunkist. I usually like Sunkist (not flat) so it really didn't bother me that much. I got a call today with my results...135. Apparently this is the high end of normal, so I get to go back for the 3 hour glucose test as well. I'm hoping that it will come back normal. I'm dreading the thought of a diabetic diet or insulin for the remainder of this pregnancy, but I'm trying to stay positive. I don't go back until the 28th for that, but I'll keep you updated as I know more.

Week 29 has brought on a few new aches and pains as well as my third cold in as many months, but for the most part I'm still chugging along and doing pretty good. Sophie's definately growing and her kicks have gotten more regular and a bit stronger. I had a feeling that she was transverse just by where I was feeling her kicks and jabs. My nurse practioner comfirmed that she is indeed transverse for the time being. She told me that they don't worry about position until week 36 though. She's still got a little while to figure out that she needs to be vertical and not horizontal. For now, I'm going to enjoy the fact that she's not pressing on my bladder or kicking me in the ribs. I'm sure my time will be coming for those things.

Last, but not least...Here's our week 29 picture.

Luckysaur- Week 21

Hello all! Another week has quickly passed...here we are at week 21. Only 133 days (give or take a few days) left until we get to meet our little girl.

I had a discovery this morning. It's kind of hard to see in this picture, but above the indentation from my pants and underwear is the beginning of the linea nigra (along with my innie belly button which I hope stays that way). I got out of the shower this morning and looked in the mirror and there it was. I have fairly dark skin, although my belly is pretty pale since it hasn't seen the sun in quite some time, and I've read that the linea nigra is more prominent in darker skinned people. I'll take this over stretch marks any day. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that those stay the heck away from this belly!

I got to hang out with my mom and sister this weekend in Florida. It's so hard living so far away from them, but we're trying to make the most of the situation by getting together as often as possible. I got to meet my new "nephew" while I was there too. This is my sister and her 7 week old baby boy, Barkley. He loves to bite right now which is why we kept sticking the lollipop chew toy in his mouth every few seconds. Haha! I'll get to see them again at Thanksgiving, which is only a few weeks away, but I'm sure Barkley will look much different then than he does now. He's going to be a big boy...look at those paws!

We did some shopping while I was in Florida. Sophie made out BIG time. Her granny is already spoiling her like crazy. She got all kinds of clothes...this kid already has me beat in the clothes department. We also got a few more things for her nursery. I'm excited to start getting it all set up, but since it's still our office right now I need to wait to have DH help me move the office furniture around to make room for the baby stuff. We'll see how fast that happens. I tried to start some of it myself last week and ended up feeling crampy so I stopped. I told DH about it and he's not letting me lift or move anything anymore. I'm not complaining though.

I start my new job on Monday. As much as I enjoy having all this free time, I really like having some structure too. I'm looking forward to getting back into the work groove again. Especially since I'll only be there a week and a half before I get a few days off again!

I hope everyone is having a great week!

Luckysaur- Week 20

We've officially made it to the half way mark! I can't believe how fast it's gone. There are only 20 weeks left until Sophie makes her appearance. I can't get over that! I really hope that time keeps flying by as fast as it has. Here's my week 20 picture. I don't think the picture does my bump justice...it really is there. Haha.

Last Friday was my last day at my job. It was pretty uneventful and I wasn't sad at all. I was actually ready to get out of there. Monday morning I got a call from HR at the second position that I interviewed for and they offered me the position! Not only will I be employed again, but I'll be making more money than I was at my previous job. Yeah! My start date is scheduled for November 16th. The only downside is that I will only have 6 (or 8, if she comes by c-section) weeks with Sophie after she is born before I have to go back to work. That bums me out a little, but it comes with the territory. I knew when this happened that I wouldn't be covered by FMLA anymore. I'm trying to stay positive about this and I'm thinking that I may see if they would be ok with me working part time for a couple of weeks after I return. That may help ease the transition of having to leave my little girl to go back to work.

Since I have two weeks in between jobs, I booked a flight (courtesy of frequent flier miles) to go back to Florida to visit my family. My mom and sister are so excited that I'm coming and are ready to go baby shopping! Whoo-hoo! I've started to get a few things for her room, but I really want their help on figuring it all out. They are great decorators. I wish they didn't live so far away.

Speaking of the decorating the nursery, Mr. Luckysaur and I bought Sophie a dresser off of Craigslist a while back and painted it. That was during my sleepy first trimester and I never got around to blogging about it. It was an awful cream color with brown top that I unfortunately did not capture on film to share with all of you. We turned the monstrosity into a crisp white dresser to match the white crib that my mom is planning on getting us. We're going to put a changing pad on top and use this as her changing table as well.

I really like all the pink stuff out there for girls, but I'm drawn more to bright, primary colors for some reason. Let me tell you, if you are having a girl and you want primary colors, forget about it. Bedding sets don't exist in this color pallet for girls. I fell in love with the colors in this blanket that my sister bought for us back in September. Not only did it have the colors that I wanted, but it was polka dots which I love. The blanket came from Target and they had a sheet that matched it too, well an entire bedding set, but it was definitely for a little boy. We're going to go with the blanket and sheet from Target instead of continuing to search for a bedding set. Yesterday, while strolling through Pottery Barn Kids at the mall I stumbled upon the perfect crib skirt to go with the sheet.

Did you see that sticker? Yep that's right, marked down from $59 to $19.97! Call me frugal if you want, but I love deals like that especially from Pottery Barn.

Have you all heard of Etsy? If not you need to go check it out. It's a site with all kinds of handmade (and vintage) goodies. I love that site and I've bought a ton of stuff off of there especially for my wedding earlier this year. I searched the site for nursery stuff the other day and I found a really cute banner that I thought would be great over the crib. Being the thrifty crafter that I am, I decided to try to make one myself instead of buying it. I'm a little biased, but I think it turned out great.

I WAY over estimated the number of flags that I would need and ended up with over double the amount. If anyone is interested in one of these, let me know.

Last but not least, I found this picture at TJ Maxx that I thought would be cute by the bookshelf that we're planning on buying. I added the little butterfly to the b although I'm not sure if it's going to stay there or not.

So there you have it...a lot of the little details and none of the stuff that Sophie's actually going to need. Haha. Those will come in time. The decorating is much more fun!

As you move into the second trimester, baby shifts into the growth and maturation stage. After weeks in the critical development stage, almost all of baby's systems are fully formed.
How your baby's growing:

The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, their toes will curl, their eye muscles will clench, and their mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it.

Their intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into their abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into their bladder. Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously.

Their face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of their head, and their ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long and weighs half an ounce.

Your fetus currently enjoys a 1:1 ratio between body and head, and has skin so transparent that blood vessels show right through. But, fingers and toes are no longer webbed, and hair follicles, tooth buds and nail beds are forming -- setting up a significantly more attractive future. How your baby's growing:

Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. Their hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under their gums, and some of their bones are beginning to harden.
They are already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as their body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won't feel your baby's acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that their diaphragm is forming.

With bones and cartilage starting to form and vital organs beginning to function, baby is making major progress. Body length will almost double in the next three weeks, and arm joints are now working. (Soon, legs will too.)

How your baby's growing:

Though they're barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of their development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in their body rapidly grow and mature.

They're swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including their kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy.

If you could take a peek inside your womb, you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.

In other developments: Your baby's limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Your baby's forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain and sits very high on his head, which measures half the length of his body. From crown to rump, he's about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, your baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches.

Your little embryo has now officially graduated to fetus-hood. Adding to the excitement, a Doppler ultrasound device might be able to pick up the beating heart. With basic physical structures in place and increasingly distinct facial features, baby is kind of starting to look like... well... a baby!
How your baby's growing:

Your new resident is nearly an inch long!--about the size of a grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce. She's starting to look more and more human. Her essential body parts are accounted for, though they'll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. Other changes abound: Your baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do her tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone.

Your baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. Her eyes are fully formed, but her eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. She has tiny earlobes, and her mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct.

The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the critical job of producing hormones. Now that your baby's basic physiology is in place, she's poised for rapid weight gain.

Your baby is growing like mad, putting on about a millimeter every day and continuing to straighten out in the trunk. Though you can't feel it yet, baby is moving those little arms, legs and (now only slightly) webbed fingers and toes like crazy.
New this week: Webbed fingers and toes are poking out from your baby's hands and feet, his eyelids practically cover his eyes, breathing tubes extend from his throat to the branches of his developing lungs, and his "tail" is just about gone. In his brain, nerve cells are branching out to connect with one another, forming primitive neural pathways. You may be daydreaming about your baby as one sex or the other, but the external genitals still haven't developed enough to reveal whether you're having a boy or a girl. Either way, your baby — about the size of a kidney bean — is constantly moving and shifting, though you still can't feel it.

Growing like crazy, baby is starting to sprout eyes, ears, nose, cheeks and chin. Those little hands and feet- still webbed like paddles- might wiggle by week's end, the heart is beating (almost twice as fast as yours!), and blood is starting to circulate. The baby is about the size of a sweet pea.

How your baby's growing: This week's major developments: The nose, mouth, and ears that you'll spend so much time kissing in eight months are beginning to take shape. If you could see into your uterus, you'd find an oversize head and dark spots where your baby's eyes and nostrils are starting to form. Their emerging ears are marked by small depressions on the sides of the head, and their arms and legs by protruding buds. Their heart is beating about 100 to 160 times a minute — almost twice as fast as yours — and blood is beginning to course through their body. Their intestines are developing, and the bud of tissue that will give rise to their lungs has appeared. Their pituitary gland is forming, as are the rest of his brain, muscles, and bones. Right now, your baby is a quarter of an inch long, about the size of a lentil bean.
