Twenty Weeks

I am officially half-way done with this pregnancy! Well, actually, 20 weeks and one day today. I missed my update yesterday since I was recovering from traveling from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Glasgow, Scotland. Whew! What a day! Thankfully, I was in business class, which afforded me some wiggle and leg room. And I wore compression socks, so no swelling. YAY! That said, the whirlwind tour of the city was grueling...lots of walking and stairs! I am starting to feel short of breath after climbing many flights of stairs. I guess it's to be expected.

Here's a photo of me at 20 weeks taken just after arriving at the Hotel du Vin in Glasgow, Scotland.

Now that we know we're having a girl, it's feeling more real. We've been calling her by name and it actually makes me well up with tears when I hear my husband speak her name so lovingly. I am an emotional mess! This pregnancy has definitely made me love him more deeply and appreciate his partnership so much more than I ever could have imagined. Later this month we celebrate eight years as a couple and two years of husband and wife. I feel so incredibly lucky that he's chosen me to walk this journey with him.

Here's what's happening with our little Libby J this week, according to BabyCenter:

Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.) He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

  1. @Melania25 -- I was there for a day and a half. Arrived on Tuesday morning and departed last evening. Whirlwind tour! We saw a lot though and may be booking an event there for 2011. I hope so! I'd love to be able to stay there longer and see more of the city. Stayed at the Hotel du Vin, which was lovely!
