2WW, overweight, and TMI

So I'm smack dab in the middle of the two week wait and feeling mellow. I suppose the advantage of TTCing for this long is that eventually you stop stressing. I used to get all worked up during the two week wait, but these days....eh. I think I've gotten to the point where I've had enough BFNs in a row that I don't get so devastated about it. Actually, I feel fairly blah about the whole thing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still hopeful and still want a baby - I'm just kind of resigned to the fact that there's a good chance this cycle won't be successful, and already planning what we'll do next time. (P.S. How awesome is that image? My inner nerd is showing, I know.)

Hopefully none of THESE doctors.

In other news, I've decided that if this cycle is unsuccessful, I'm going to try to find a new doctor. I love the one I have right now, but I'm not sure she's taking my concerns about my rapidly disappearing period seriously enough - I think she's just made up her mind that it's due to me being overweight and isn't willing to look at any other possibilities. And I AM overweight - I'll own that and I'm certainly not denying it - but I can't help but feel that I'm not that overweight. I don't even wear plus sized clothing. I know many women who are larger than I am who haven't lost their periods and who have still managed to successfully get pregnant.

We all know I don't have a PCOS or a progesterone problem, but it could be something else. What, I don't know - but I do know that for my entire life (even when I was on birth control), I've had very heavy periods, and this has only started after I miscarried. So you can see why I'm skeptical - especially since I've been slowly but steadily losing weight for the last three cycles, and my period is still getting progressively lighter. Maybe I'll get knocked up this time around and this will all become a moot point. But if not, I'm cracking open the phone book to see who else I can find in my little town.

And here's the (very very very) TMI part: even though my periods have been so light lately, I seem to be passing more uterine lining - it's greyish and thin, kind of like a piece of grey balloon but only slightly stretchy. It's not unusual to get small pieces of tissue in your period, but on several occasions I've gotten big ones, about the size of my palm. Dr Google says it's not something to worry about since I haven't had any positive pregnancy tests (so it's not repeated early miscarriages), and I've found a number of posts on various health and TTC forums describing the same thing.

This is the closest thing I've been able to find online, although it's not quite as large as what I've experienced (please don't click that link if you're squeamish - this woman took photos of the actual tissue and posted them online, so that link has some very graphic pictures). Anyway, the reason I'm bringing it up is because I want anyone else who has experienced this to know that it does happen to other women too, and probably isn't anything to worry about unless it happens every single time you have a period.

So that's what's happening so far this 2WW...only eight days until testing day! Or six, if I cave early or just really feel like peeing on something, haha!

  1. So I don't know how much your weight has changed in the past year, but I do know that two years ago you really were not overweight! At least not the general definition of overweight and definitely not enough for your weight to have that much of an impact on your cycle. So I'm with you- I think it's time for a new doctor! Maybe ask around to see if there is a doctor in your area who works well with women who have recently suffered a loss and knows all the different things that can do to your body. Because your current doctor, to me, doesn't seem that familiar with that.

Good luck! Though I hope a new doctor won't be needed because you'll get a BFP this cycle. *fingers crossed* for you!

  2. I'm hoping this is all moot, as well, but I would definitely find a new doctor. Your current one does not seem to be proactive at all, especially given your observations and history. She doesn't seem to be taking any of that into consideration! The "overweight" excuse is a bunch of bunk. I'd find a doctor who is willing to entertain and test for other possibilities as opposed to making unfounded diagnoses.

  3. Thanks for the support, ladies!

Rockasaur, I have gained weight since then - probably 15-20lbs, if I'm being honest - but yeah, I am really VERY skeptical that it's enough to stop my period.

I was a bit surprised when she first said it, but open to the idea, so I've been (slowly) losing weight, but it hasn't made any difference. She still thinks that's the problem though, so yeah - I think it may be time to find a new doc. It might be a little difficult since I live in a small town (so there aren't any specialists here), but I'm going to give it a shot. My current doc *could* be right...but I don't think she is.

  4. I think you should go with your instincts and find a new doctor. From what you've shared here and in previous posts, it seems to me that your current doc is taking the "easy" road.

FWIW, I AM OBESE...not just overweight, but actually obese according to all BMI charts. My periods came right back to my "normal" (31-36 day cycles) right after going off the pill. I did lose about 25 lbs. while TTC but that brought me down from a size 18/20 to a 16/18 (yeah I am not one of those ladies who loses a dress size with every 10 lbs...:-( )

Anyway, I think you know your body well enough to know that scanty periods and chunks of gray tissue are not normal for you. And the fact that it's only been since your miscarriage, well there's another big piece of the puzzle.

As for the weightloss thing...I won't lie...at 4 months pregnant I wish I had been able to get down the pounds some more before I got pregnant. My goal was to have lost 50 lbs. before getting pg. But it happened quickly for us. So...now my goal is AFTER the baby arrives, to get down at least 50 lbs (80 lbs would be better) before TTC #2.

I say keep TTC while trying to drop some weight (your body will thank you once you're KU!) and find a doc who's willing to work with you. Sending you tons of positive vibes!

  5. *baby dust*

Good luck on finding a new doctor. I hope you can find someone who takes you more seriously. And will figure out the mystery of the disappearing periods.
