Doing Bad Things in Vegas!

Everyone talks about babymoons, and I suppose that's what I just took. Except it wasn't with my darling husband, it was a full on GIRLS TRIP! My last blast! Or, maybe not last, but certainly a great trip for my 2nd Trimester (I'm 26 Weeks).

TEN girls converged upon the Wynn in Las Vegas for the weekend, filled with long lazy days at the European pool, swank dinners, exclusive nightclubs, some gambling and more limo rides than I can count. Oh yeah, we did Vegas in STYLE!

And, true to Vegas fashion, I broke a few rules. And I loved every second of it! With my doctor's permission, of course... So don't try this at home. Ask your doctor first. But just so you know, there ARE some taboo things that you CAN do once...

(1) I drank WINE! I didn't even ask, but my doctor voluntarily told me at my appointment last week -- in front of DH -- that since I was going to Vegas, I could have one glass of wine. On Friday night, I tasted my friend's red wine, which was delish! So I had two more sips. Then on Saturday night, I ORDERED my very own glass of Chardonnay!

And that leads me to the second taboo thing I did... Because I loooooove to have wine with SUSHI!

(2) Yes, that's right, I ate SUSHI! Again, I asked my doctor about this and she said that my this point in my pregnancy, it would be fine to have a few pieces. We were going to Nobu, after all! So I ordered a shrimp tempura roll -- shrimp is OK in limited amounts, so I've had shrimp twice before while pregnant. But then I also ordered a SPICEY AHI roll! That's right, I ate tuna. My doctor said it was OK! Of the 6 pieces in the roll, I ate 4. They were small. And it was YUMMY!

(3) I bared my belly and laid out in the SUN! I don't think this is really taboo, actually. But it seemed a little crazy to me. I asked my doctor and she said that as long as I wore a high SPF sunscreen, drank plenty of water and watched the color of my pee to make sure I was not dehydrated, took frequent dips in the cool pool and breaks in the shade, that sun tanning was perfectly OK and even healthy for the baby!

I figured since we were at a EUROPEAN pool and some girls were topless, that I could put away my tent-like maternity swimming costumes and wear bikinis! I did get a few strange looks, but I also got a ton of compliments! And when my girlfriends ordered mixed drinks, I sipped on banana coladas and berry smoothies.

It was a fabulous weekend. It just goes to show that being pregnant does NOT mean the end of all fun. And, with your doctor's permission, there are a few rules that, if you are far enough along in your pregnancy (I was 26 Weeks), you can break.

Viva Las Vegas!

  1. Woo-hoo! Sounds like you had a great time!

How was it travelling at 25 weeks? Were you exposed to much 2nd hand smoke?

I'm wondering because we might take a trip to Vegas next March. We haven't decided yet, but we're toying with the idea of TTC after this September (yikes!).

  2. Sounds like fun! I think my friend's mom was allowed a glass of wine a day in her last tri and she turned out okay. So I'm sure your one glass is totally fine.

  3. Sounds like you had a blast! Good for you for talking to your doc about what you could and could not safely do while in Vegas. I hope to have a girlfriend's getaway at some point too since I don't think I'll be having a shower or anything. All of my BFFs have children under 3, so coordinating might be a challenge! I am thinking of 3 days/2 nights in Carmel, Santa Barbara or San Diego. We shall see!

On a side note: N&B --- That's a very exciting development! You'll have to join us here on Pregosaur!

  4. Yeah, N&B... Awesome news! Traveling was fine at 25-26 weeks. Another girlfriend on the trip was 18 weeks along, so I had a wing lady!

We flew Southwest so I pulled the "I'm pregnant" card and pre-boarded so I could snag us sweet seats up front with plenty of leg room! (Also made it easier to get up for the bathroom, which I had to do since I was drinking tons of water.) My dr just said to make sure to walk around a lot if it's a long flight, and that wasn't hard since, like I said, I hit the loo several times.

Re smoke, surprisingly there wasn't much. The casino wasn't smoky at all. Some out by the pool but just hear and there. I think b/c not many people smoke anymore...

I would add that I did NOT go to all the nightclubs with my friends (like Tao) because of the crowds and I didn't want to get bumped (plus I was tired), but I loved XS, which is out by the pool and has plenty of open spaces. Walking through the crowds in the casino at night was a little annoying. I just kept my arms in front of my belly and walked slowly so no one would bump me.

    HTH!

  5. Sounds like a fun time in Vegas! I'm glad to hear a little sushi every now and then is OK, I LOVE sushi and live across the street from a sushi place.

Divasaur- If you decide on San Diego let me know! That's my neck of the woods!

N&B Congrats on the TTC talk!

  6. Thanks everyone (It's Nicole&Brian--can't log on to my acct at work)! I've been lurking here for a long time since I know who some of you are. ;)

MH brought up the baby talk last month (WTF?! The plan was to wait a couple more years!), but even he still goes back and forth on the matter and I'm still warming up to the idea. :P

We're not actively TTC just yet, but I have so many questions! I'm not comfortable posting my questions on TN (since MH's sister is a Knottie and might read something she shouldn't) so I don't really have a sounding board. Thankfully, I'm finding a lot of answers and great info here. :)

I know I don't want to get KU before September (we're going to Vegas :P), but I'm having some internal conflict with continuing on BCP. It's worked out great for me so far over the past 8 years, but, for various reasons, my gut is telling to reconsider continuing with it. Maybe I'll pick up TCOYF and read up on its methods for TTA.

Politisaur--thanks for sharing your experience! We normally stay in the smokey casinos (mainly Main Street) when we go to Vegas. If I'm KU in March, we might still be able to go to Vegas, but I'm guessing I might have to spend less time gambling in the casino.

Sorry this became so long! :)
